The Spiritual Adventures of a Business Man (1929, foreword)

The Spiritual Adventures of a Business Man is a book written by T. A. R. Purchas published in december 1929 by Simpkin Marshall Ltd. and The Psychic Press including a foreword written by Arthur Conan Doyle.

Foreword by Arthur Conan Doyle

THE PSYCHIC PRESS, which I established, would have put the world into its debt if it had done nothing more than publish two volumes : The Psychical Experiences of a Musician, by Von Reuter, and The Spiritual Adventures of a Business Man to which I write this small foreword. I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. T. A. R. Purchas when I was in South Africa, and I found him to be a solid, self-reliant, steady-nerved man, as one would expect from his varied experience as soldier, pioneer, and man of affairs. These qualities are conspicuous in the account of his psychic experiences, which must carry conviction to anyone who is capable of weighing evidence. Mr. Purchas unites three rare qualities, the patience to carry out a long series of experiments, the brain to weigh and appreciate the results, and finally the literary power to throw those results into a clear and readable shape. In the whole vast range of psychic literature I can hardly name any volume where this union of qualities is more conspicuous. I send the book out to the world in the full assurance that it will be a source from which many will draw a fresh inspiration in their lives.
