The opening of this two days' match yesterday at the U.S.C.C. Ground, Portsmouth, was rather slow but very even, for though the Rovers were 20 to the good on the first innings, the U.S. had more than wiped the balance out in their second essay without the loss of a wicket. At the drawing of the stumps the score stood as follows:—
