The following interesting analysis of the birthplaces of the most notable "men of the Time" is extracted from Dr. A. Conan Doyle's paper in the Nineteenth Century for August. The shortcomings of "Men of the Time" have often been complained of. The present table will enable residents in every county to see how incomplete is the list of notables in that standard work of reference. The allocation of notables to counties is governed in every case by the accident of birthplace:—
