• Lopez was Don Juan Murillo's close friend and secretary (WIST 555).

• He was a foreigner, chocolate brown, wily, suave and cat-like, with a poisonous gentleness of speech (WIST 555).

• He discovered and overpowered Miss Burnet, the governess (WIST 722), and he guarded her while Murillo committed the murder (WIST 731).

• Some six months afterwards the Marquess of Montalva (aka Don Juan Murillo) and Signor Rulli (aka Lopez) were both murdered in Madrid (WIST 757).
