William Powell (Philo Vance) and Clive Brook (Sherlock Holmes) in Paramount on Parade (1930)

William H. Powell (29 july 1892 - 5 march 1984) was an American actor who played Forman Wells in 1922 in the movie Sherlock Holmes (released in UK as Moriarty) with John Barrymore (Sherlock Holmes). It was his first role in a movie.

In 1930, he also played Philo Vance in the "Murder Will Out" sequence of the movie Paramount on Parade with Clive Brook as Sherlock Holmes.
