* He was a small, sharp-faced, nervous, black-eyed man ([[VALL]] {{refcanon|VALL|2185}}).

* He met [[John McMurdo]] on the train, and later became his fellow-boarder and mate among [[The Scowrers]] ([[VALL]] {{refcanon|VALL|3360}}).

* Scanlan (with [[John McMurdo]]) had to put [[Lawler]] and [[Andrews]] up at their boarding-house for a few days, providing lodgings and comfort until the time for action ([[VALL]] {{refcanon|VALL|3360}}).

* He was picked by [[Ted Baldwin]], with [[Gower]], [[Mansel]], and the two [[Arthur Willaby|Willabys]], to take part in the night attack on the Vermissa Herald office ([[VALL]] {{refcanon|VALL|2937}}).
