The Castle of Balmoral exists, but the title "Duke of Balmoral" does not exist in real British peerage.
In the Sherlock Holmes stories
The Noble Bachelor (1892)
- The Duke of Balmoral was at one time Secretary for Foreign Affairs (NOBL 53). He inherited Plantagenet blood by direct descent, and Tudor on the distaff side (NOBL 54).
- His wife was the Duchess of Balmoral and his children were Lord Robert St. Simon, Lord Eustace St. Simon and Lady Clara St. Simon (NOBL 97).
- He did not attended the marriage of his son Lord Robert St. Simon (NOBL 97).
Silver Blaze (1892)
- In the Wessex Cup, the Duke of Balmoral's horse was "Iris" (yellow and black stripes) (SILV 476) but finished a "bad third" (SILV 504).
The Empty House (1903)
- With Colonel Moran, Ronald Adair had won as much as £420 in a sitting from Godfrey Milner and Lord Balmoral [1] (EMPT 27).
