- Francis Hay Moulton was an American prospector (NOBL 444), described as small, wiry, sunburned, with a sharp face and alert manner (NOBL 433).
- He was engaged and married to Hatty Doran in the United States before the marriage with Lord Robert St. Simon (NOBL 436).
- Francis Hay Moulton was presumed dead, after being reported killed during an Apache Indian attack in the American West (NOBL 445) but in reality, he had been captured and held prisoner by the Apaches, escaped, and only later made his way back (NOBL 473).
- He reappeared at Hatty Doran's second marriage with Lord Robert St. Simon, causing a shock to Hatty and her escape with him (NOBL 473).
