Gillette in "Sherlock Holmes"

William Gillette will play a return engagement in his famous drama "Sherlock Holmes" at the Star Theater beginning tonight and running for three nights with Saturday matinee. This visit of Gillette will practically mean a farewell visit of the talented author-actor to Buffalo. Gillette has signified his intention of retiring to a private life very shortly and it is in all probability his intention to do so at the end of his European engagement. After leaving Buffalo, Gillette will play at but two cities before going to London where "Sherlock Holmes" is to play for one year. When Gillette's famous drama was produced in Buffalo it made a most profound impression, and the reception given it on its first night evidenced the popularity with which it was held and prophesied as to the success it would attain. Gillette's return engagement will undoubtedly be a much more successful one, for the impression made by the play, has not been forgotten. Since producing it, Gillette has played "Sherlock Holmes" at the Garrick Theater. New York, for thirty-six consecutive weeks to standing room audiences at each performance. The play has made one of the greatest hits of recent times. Those who saw it before will see some remarkable changes in it this time and especially in regard to the electrical effects, all of which have been introduced by Gillette since its production here.
There is no reason to doubt but that the capacity of the Star will be tested to its utmost during this engagement. Attention is called to the fact that the curtain rises at 8 o'clock sharp, each evening and at 2 p. m. at the Saturday matinee.
James A. Herne will produce his newest, play, "Sag Harbor" at the Star Theater, next week. "Sag Harbor" is even better than "Shore Acres" and has had long runs in big cities. The sale of seats opened at the theater this morning.
