All the family of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, the famous novelist and spiritualist, joined him in the rescue of valuable documents and furniture when his home, Bignell House, Bignell Wood, near Southampton, blazed fiercely yesterday. Sir Arthur had converted an old thatched cottage into a country house, adding a modern wing, and fire broke out in the thatch. The old portion of the house was severely burned and the new wing also suffered damage. ("Daily Mirror" photographs.)
