In the Sherlock Holmes stories

• Ivy Douglas (known as Mrs. Douglas until the epilogue) was the wife of John Douglas of Birlstone Manor House (VALL 4096).

• She was a beautiful woman, tall, dark, and slender, some twenty years younger than her husband (VALL 500).

• She met Douglas in London and married him for five years (VALL 1200).

• She also told Sherlock Holmes and Inspector Alec MacDonald that Douglas used the phrase "The Valley of Fear" in private (VALL 1218).
