In the Sherlock Holmes stories
- Ivy Douglas (known as Mrs. Douglas until the epilogue) was the wife of John Douglas of Birlstone Manor House (VALL 4096).
- She was a beautiful woman, tall, dark, and slender, some twenty years younger than her husband (VALL 500).
- She also told Sherlock Holmes and Inspector Alec MacDonald that Douglas used the phrase "The Valley of Fear" in private (VALL 1218).
