- James Stanger was the editor of the Vermissa Herald, targeted and brutally beaten by The Scowrers gang after Lodge discussion (VALL 2886).
- The Herald had published articles that incriminated The Scowrers like "Reign of Terror in the Coal and Iron District." "Twelve years have now elapsed since the first assassinations which proved the existence of a criminal organization in our midst..." (VALL 2892).
