Johann Paul Friedrich Richter aka Jean Paul (21 march 1763 - 14 november 1825) was a German Romantic writer, best known for his humorous novels and stories.
In the Sherlock Holmes stories
- Dr. Watson said he was fairly well up in his Jean Paul (SIGN 1374). He worked back to him through Carlyle (SIGN 1376).
- Sherlock Holmes said there is much food for thought in Richter (SIGN 1381).
