In the Sherlock Holmes stories

  • He did twenty-six voyages (BLAC 432).
  • He came to blackmail ("squeeze") Peter Carey for hush money over the crime and the tin box (BLAC 498), but he killed Peter Carey in self-defense with a harpoon when Carey attacked with a knife (BLAC 475).
