PORTSMOUTH F.C. v. STUBBINGTON LODGE. — This Association match took place on Saturday on the Garrison Recreation Ground, and some exciting play was watched by a large number of spectators the Borough Club being victorious by three goals to one. The visitors winning the toss had the wind in their favour throughout the first half of the game, but soon after Portsmouth had kicked off some good passing between Huddy and Loader resulted in the first notch being scared, the latter's shot for goal being neatly done. Later on Davies put the ball between the posts, but on off-side being claimed, the umpires were usable to agree, and there being no referee to settle the difference, Portsmouth waived the point. After ends had been changed Nelson made a smart run down the right wing and centred the ball, a scrummage in front of goal resulting in favour of Portsmouth. The visitors then made their first and only goal, a rapid pass to Turner, who lay well up in the right wing, enabling him by a sharp run and a good shot to put the leather past the Portsmouth goal keeper. Before play ceased, Godfrey kicked in fine style another goal for Portsmouth, for whom Poole took the corner kicks as creditably as usual, though nothing happened to come from them. Huddy and Leader worked hardest amongst the borough forwards, but Nelson and Davies made some dashing runs, find the dribbling of Godfrey was noticeable. The half-backs proved themselves equal to the demands made upon them, and the full backs kicked hard and tackled well. Pares particularly distinguishing himself. For Stubbington, Smythe and Taylor were most conspicuous, and they were well supported; but though they contested the match stubbornly and pluckily, the visitors were unequal to the combined play of the borough forwards and the powerful defense of the backs. Teams. Portsmouth: goal, A. C. Smith; backs, Rev. Norman Pares and W. Peters; half-backs, A. E. Kindersley, J. Poole, and W. O. Adames; forwards centre, A. H. Godfrey; right wing, R. E.
