PORTSMOUTH F.C. v. SUNFLOWERS. — This Association match was played at North End on Saturday, when the visitors were defeated by two goals to love, the borough club that bringing its list of victories this season up to 11, against two defeats and two drawn games, with 45 goals to their credit, against 20 kicked by their opponents. The visitors, though they had the worst of the match in both halfs, played a doing game well. Their forwards made determined efforts to equalise matters, but the Portsmouth backs were equal to the demands made upon them, A. C. Smith, R. Hemingsley, and W. O. Adames working particularly hard, and W. Peters proving himself be a useful acquisition to the Club. Gibbins kept goal capitally cleverly saving one daugerous shot. Amongst the forwards C. E. Pinfold was conspicuous by his dashing style and safe kicking, and while R. E. Davies (captain) effected some sharp runs down the right wing. A. E. Kindersley and H. Brooks played with plenty of spirit. Edmonds also did creditably as centre-forward, though his ordinary place is in the wing. Ashby, Bernard, Pares, and Edwards, by their dribbling and passing amongst the forwards, Ozzard, by his true and hard kicking at full back, and Twiss, by his smartness in goal, distinguished themselves for the Sunflowers, who were strongly represented, though without the services of G. L. Pares.
