PORTSMOUTH v. HORNDEAN. — This match, under Association rules, was played yesterday at North End, on the ground of the former Club, who scored an easy victory. The visitors won the toss, and the home eleven having kicked off quickly showed the superriority of their forwards, their dribbling and passing enabling them to frequently threaten the Horndean citadel. A fine shot by Kindersley registered the only point of the first half, but on changing ends, with the wind in their favour. Portsmouth mane a succession of rapid charges on their opponents, and goals were obtained by Armstrong, Godfrey, and Edmonds, the former contributing to one of these three by an excellent pass from the left wing. Horndean obtained a lucky goal from a long shot, but had decidedly the worst of the game throughout, notwithstanding the plucky manner in which Dr Strong, Tooker, Westbrooke, and Agate played up. The Portsmouth forwards, whose individual and combined play left nothing to be desired, were well supported by the backs, Adames in particular rendering most efficient service. The home team won by four goals to one. Portsmouth: J. Armstrong, centre forwards; A. H. Godfrey and A. H. Carrell, right wing; A. E. Kindersley and Edmonds, left wing; W. O. Adames (captain), J. Williams, and M. Alexander, half-backs; A. C. Smith and R. Jones, full-backs; and Thomas, goal. Horndean: Tooker and Bettesworth, centre forwards; J. Agate and Pescott, right wing; G. E. Westbrooke and Courtney, left wing; Dr Strong and Morice, half backs; Glenny and Antill (captain), full-backs; and Penny, goal.
