From The Arthur Conan Doyle Encyclopedia

This review of the book "The Lost World and Other Stories", by Arthur Conan Doyle was written by Christopher Roden and published in the The Parish Magazine (No. 13, november 1995).

This review enthusiastically praises the Wordsworth edition for offering all the Professor Challenger stories in one inexpensive, convenient volume. The reviewer sees it as the best of the recent Lost World editions and recommends it wholeheartedly, whether or not the reader already owns the stories.

In the last issue of The Parish Magazine I reviewed two new versions of The Lost World, one from Alan Sutton (which also included The Poison Belt), and one in the new Oxford Popular Fiction series.

Now comes an edition to top them all; one which contains the complete Professor Challenger stories-and all for £1 or less.

Love them or hate them, there is no denying that Wordsworth Classics have brought new life to English Literature. More recently, the format of the books has changed, and The Lost World and Other Stories is in the new style: a larger size, with lighter paper. It is all the better for that.

What else is there to say. I certainly do not need to introduce Professor Challenger or the five marvellous stories in this volume. If you do not have the complete Challenger stories, get them now-you're in for a treat; if you do have them, buy this edition anyway: it's much too good a bargain to miss.
