- Lord Robert Walsingham de Vere St Simon was the second son of the Duke of Balmoral (NOBL 47), born in 1846 (NOBL 50).
- He consulted Lestrade from Scotland Yard and Sherlock Holmes because his fiancée, Miss Hatty Doran, disappeared on the day of her wedding (NOBL 35).
