- Rodger Prescott was a Chicago criminal forger/counterfeiter who was already dead by the time of the story (3GAR 375).
- He was shot by Killer Evans in London (3GAR 373).
- In the hidden cellar, Sherlock Holmes identified a printing press, a counterfeiter's outfit (3GAR 457), and Killer Evans confirmed "that's Prescott's machine," with "two thousand notes" (3GAR 460).
