Sherlock Holmes: The Great Detective is a British documentary produced by Satel Documentary Production, directed by Peter Swain, hosted by Peter Graves and narrated by Anthony Valentine, released on 22 may 1995, starring David Burke as Dr. Watson. 46 minutes.
The documentary looks at why Sherlock Holmes became the definitive detective, and how the character sits at the crossroads of Victorian crime, emerging forensic science, and mass entertainment: sets the scene in Victorian Britain; connects Holmes to real-world detection and science; traces Holmes's rise as popular fiction, and closes on legacy.
