This photograph shows Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, the creator of "Sherlock Holmes," lifting a piece of turf whilst working with the Crowborough Volunteer Training Corps. Sir Arthur, who is an enthusiastic volunteer, has entered into the spirit of camp life with great earnestness.
