In the Sherlock Holmes stories

• Dr. Watson met Stamford at the Criterion Bar and as Stamford was an acquaintance of both Sherlock Holmes and John H. Watson, he was responsible for their meeting (STUD 92).

• Stamford had been a dresser under Watson at Barts (STUD 21).
