The Nightmare Room (play 2018)

From The Arthur Conan Doyle Encyclopedia
The Nightmare Room (2018)

The Nightmare Room is a British play, written and directed by John Goodrum, produced by Tabs Productions, performed at the Theatre Royal (Nottingham, UK) from 21 to 25 august 2018. The play was re-runned in 2026 with a slightly different cast (see here).

When Helen regains consciousness, she finds herself bound and blindfolded in a locked room. Her captor, best friend Catherine, challenges her to a deadly game of Russian roulette to decide which of them will win the handsome film star they both desire. But the game – like the room – is far from what it seems... and are they alone in the room... or is there someone watching!

The play is adapted from Arthur Conan Doyle's short story : The Nightmare Room (1921). It is different from the original. In Conan Doyle's story, the conflict is between two men over a famous dancer; in Goodrum's version, it becomes two women, Catherine and Helen, trapped in a locked room and forced into a deadly game involving poison to settle their rivalry over a film star.
