The Remarkable Pipe Dream of Mr. Shylock Holmes

From The Arthur Conan Doyle Encyclopedia
The New-York Times (21 november 1899, p. 4)

The Remarkable Pipe Dream of Mr. Shylock Holmes is an American 1-act play, written by Clay M. Greene, performed at the Koster & Bial's Music Hall (New York, USA) from 20 november 1899, starring Alexander Clark as Shylock Holmes.

« The play was a take off on the William Gillette's play of "Sherlock Holmes" and upon the author-actor himself. The query: "What is the difference between Gillette and the ice wagon?" and the reply, "Nothing." may pass as the gist of the act. It is impossible to faze the hero, because he wrote the play himself and knows that nothing can happen to him, so why become excited? It is a very laughable skit. » [1]
