Plot of Doyle's New Novel

The Chicago Tribune (25 december 1892, p. 10)

Doyle views with some timidity the prospective treatment by American critics of his new novel coming out in Harper's as a serial. It is a tale of a young American of the late seventeenth century. The scene is partly in Paris, where the hero is mixed up with Maintenon and Montespan, and partly in French Canada and the Adirondacks. The author has never been in America and so confesses to nervousness lest it should turn out he has got it all wrong.
