Charles II (29 may 1630 - 6 february 1685) was King of Scotland from 1649 until 1651 and King of England, Scotland, and Ireland from the 1660 Restoration of the monarchy until his death in 1685.
In the Sherlock Holmes stories
- Reginald Musgrave's ancestor, Sir Ralph Musgrave, was a prominent Cavalier, and the right-hand man of Charles II in his wanderings (MUSG 360).
- In the Musgrave ritual, Sherlock Holmes interpreted : "Who shall have it?", "He who will come.", as Charles II, in exile at the time but expected to return to reclaim the throne (MUSG 374).
