- Dr. Leslie Armstrong was one of the heads of the medical school of the Cambridge University (MISS 292). A thinker of European reputation, with a square, massive face, brooding eyes, granite jaw, grim, ascetic, self-contained, formidable (MISS 293).
- He was an intimate friend of Godfrey Staunton (MISS 308).
- He was ultimately tracked to a lonely cottage where Sherlock Holmes found the truth (MISS 293). He was the physician who secretly treated Godfrey Staunton's wife : Mrs. Staunton (MISS 308).
