- Fitzroy Simpson was a man of excellent birth and education, who had squandered a fortune upon the turf, and who lived now by doing a little quiet and genteel bookmaking in the sporting clubs of London (SILV 131).
- He was arrested because he had £5,000 in bets against Silver Blaze (SILV 132), his cravat was found in John Straker's hand (SILV 135), and he was seen by Edith Baxter near the stables on the night of the murder (SILV 66).
- Sherlock Holmess proved he didn't commit the murder and wasn't behind the horse's disappearance (SILV 551).
