In the Sherlock Holmes stories
- It was owned by Colonel Ross (SILV 475).
- It killed its trainer John Straker when Straker attempted to lame him so he could profit from betting against the horse (SILV 573), after the killing Silver Blaze fled randomly to a competitor's stable (Capleton stables) (SILV 395).
- By reasoning and following tracks, Sherlock Holmes found Silver Blaze and the horse could compete and won the Wessex Cup, with a good six lengths before its rival (SILV 504).
