- John Openshaw came from Horsham when he visited Sherlock Holmes (FIVE 35).
- In 1869 or 1870, Colonel Elias Openshaw came back in Europe and took a small estate in Sussex, near Horsham (FIVE 68).
- During all the years that he lived at Horsham Colonel Elias Openshaw never set foot in the town (FIVE 71]).
- Colonel Elias Openshaw asked his servant Mary to send down to Fordham, the Horsham lawyer (FIVE 96).
- Beginning of 1884, Joseph Openshaw came to live at Horsham (FIVE 133).
