- MacNamara's widow was the landlady of the boarding-house where John McMurdo and Mike Scanlan lodge together on Vermissa's outskirts (VALL 2627).
- She was an easy-going old Irish woman (VALL 2629), "true as steel" and "deaf as a post" (VALL 3797).
