- Marie Devine was Lady Frances Carfax's maid (LADY 83).
- She was as popular as her mistress at the Lausanne hotel, engaged to head waiter Jules Vibart, later living at 11, Rue de Trajan, Montpellier (LADY 98).
- She received £50 from her mistress as a wedding present and had earlier cashed a £50 cheque at the Crédit Lyonnais, Montpellier (LADY 80).
- She also witnessed the bearded man seize Lady Frances Carfax's wrist (LADY 167).
