Motorcycling
From The Arthur Conan Doyle Encyclopedia

Arthur Conan Doyle had financed the ROC cycle company (founded by A. W. Wall) which had manufactured one of his early motorcycle (see photo). He was also very interested in the Auto-Wheel motor that could be attached to a bicycle (see Cycling).
In 1903, he expressed the idea that some motor cycle firm should prepare a machine & trailer expressly for Commercial Travellers. In 1905, he entered his ROC motorcycle in the International motor-cycle race in Dourdan (France). his bike was driven by T. Messier, but unfortunately Tessier did not wished to participate to the eliminatory race at the last minute (see report).
Conan Doyle about Motor cycle
- « I made 650 against his 1,000, which, as I was not helped by a bad fall from a motor bike a few days before, was as much as I could expect. » (Memories and Adventures, 1923)
