In the Sherlock Holmes stories
- Mr. Roundhay was the Vicar of the parish of Tredannick Wollas, Cornwall. He was something of an archaeologist (DEVI 28).
- He was a middle-aged man, portly and affable, with a considerable fund of local lore (DEVI 29). He was something of an archaeologist (DEVI 28).
- He was a bachelor who takes Mortimer Tregennis as a lodger, which increased his scanty resources (DEVI 30).
- With Mortimer Tregennis he brought "the most extraordinary and tragic affair" to Sherlock Holmes (DEVI 34). He gave the first full account of the night at Tredannick Wartha (DEVI 43).
