In the Sherlock Holmes stories

  • Mortimer Tregennis killed his sister and attempted to kill his two brothers (who ended in an asylum) for money and control of the family's property (DEVI 528), by burning some poisonous devil's-foot root powder (DEVI 331).
  • He was a lodger at the vicarage of Mr. Roundhay. He was a thin, dark, spectacled man, with a stoop which gave the impression of actual, physical deformity (DEVI 31).
