Dr. Leon Sterndale

From The Arthur Conan Doyle Encyclopedia
Dr. Leon Sterndale (The Strand Magazine, december 1910)

Fictional character.

In the Sherlock Holmes stories

  • Dr. Leon Sterndale was a great lion-hunter and African explorer (DEVI 222 406).
  • He had a huge body, a craggy and deeply-seamed face with the fierce eyes and hawk-like nose, grizzled hair which nearly brushed our cottage ceiling, the beard — golden at the fringes and white near the lips, save for the nicotine stain from his perpetual cigar — all these were as well known in London as in Africa (DEVI 221).
