In the Sherlock Holmes stories
- Mrs. Porter was the old cook and housekeeper of the Tregennis family at Tredannick Wartha (DEVI 52).
- Mr. Roundhay said there was no sign of the presence of anyone in the house, except Mrs Porter, who declared that she had slept deeply and heard no sound during the night (DEVI 52).
