In the Sherlock Holmes stories
aka Miss Burnet.
- Señora Durando was the wife of Victor Durando (the San Pedro Minister in London) (WIST 698).
- Her husband was murdered by Don Juan Murillo, and their estates were confiscated, and she was left with a pittance and a broken heart (WIST 703).
- She got employed under the false name "Miss Burnet" as a governess at Murillo's house (WIST 556), and kept her accomplices in touch with his movements (WIST 708).
- She was discovered and forced to yield Aloysius Garcia's address (WIST 727). She was held in captivity and drugged with opium (WIST 632), but escaped (WIST 741).
- She was brought to Sherlock Holmes and Inspector Baynes, revived, and recovered (WIST 742).
