  • Sir Charles Baskerville was elderly and infirm, wealthy master of Baskerville Hall, whose sudden death triggered the mystery (HOUN 561).
  • He was a kind, charitable landowner (HOUN 246), but also nervous and superstitious (HOUN 3685).
  • He was found dead near the yew alley at Baskerville Hall, seemingly of a heart attack, with hints of a giant hound (HOUN 254).
