Miss Susan Cushing (The Strand Magazine, january 1893)

Fictional character.

In the Sherlock Holmes stories

  • Miss Susan Cushing, a maiden lady of fifty (CARD 75), a very placid and respectable lady (CARD 299), was living at Cross Street, Croydon (CARD 70).
  • She received a small packet, wrapped in brown paper (CARD 71), and was horrified to find two human ears inside (CARD 73).
  • She had once taken in lodgers — three noisy young medical students — but evicted them (CARD 76), which is why the police initially suspect the parcel might be a gruesome "practical joke" from them (CARD 148).
