In the Sherlock Holmes stories

• Trelawney Hope was the Right Honourable Secretary for European Affairs (SECO 9).

• He had a brilliant career and was the most rising statesman in the country (SECO 9 506).

• His wife, Lady Hilda Trelawney Hope, stole

• Under Eduardo Lucas's blackmail, his wife stole the State letter from his home, but later courageously recovered it to save him and the country (SECO 574).

• Sherlock Holmes restored the letter and concealed Lady Hilda's involvement, never exposing her to him or the Prime Minister (SECO 558).
