- He was a widower with a son Arthur Holder (BERY 103) and a niece Mary Holder (BERY 122).
- He consulted Sherlock Holmes to retrieve the stolen beryls (BERY 31).
- He wrongly accused his son Arthur Holder for the theft of the Beryl Coronet (BERY 172).
