- Mary Holder was the niece of Alexander Holder (BERY 122) and the cousin of Arthur Holder (BERY 103).
- She was the accomplice of Sir George Burnwell in the theft of the Beryl Coronet (BERY 501).
- Sherlock Holmes deduced that it was Mary Holder that stole the Beryl Coronet, and not his cousin Arthur Holder (BERY 562).
