Beppo arrested by Sherlock Holmes (The Strand Magazine, may 1904)

In the Sherlock Holmes stories

• Beppo was an Italian sculptor/odd-jobber tied to the statue trade (SIXN 236).

• He was previously arrested for stabbing another Italian; both Morse Hudson and the Manager of Gelder & Co. manager identify him from the photo (SIXN 265).

• While being pursued by police a year earlier, he hid the black pearl of the Borgias inside a still-wet Napoleon bust at Gelder & Co.; after prison, he hunted down all six busts to recover it (SIXN 480).

• He smashed several busts (Morse Hudson's ; Dr. Barnicot's two ; Harker's ; Josiah Brown's ; then after Sherlock Holmes bought Mr. Sandeford's, Sherlock Holmes broke it and found the pearl (SIXN 30).

• He killed Pietro Venucci on Harker's doorstep (SIXN 495) because the latter hold Beppo responsible for the loss of the pearl (SIXN 495). And was caught red-handed at Josiah Brown's house in Chiswick (SIXN 407).
