In the Sherlock Holmes stories

  • He was the thief. Though he didn't killed Cadogan West, he took impressions of the keys, conspired via agony-column ads, stole the plans, brought them to Hugo Oberstein, participated in the cover-up by loading West's body onto a carriage roof, and attempted to profit (BRUC 823)
  • He died in prison towards the end of the second year of his sentence (BRUC 903).
