  • Jephro Rucastle was a country gentleman living at "The Copper Beeches", five miles on the far side of Winchester, in Hampshire (COPP 87).
  • He was prodigiously stout, smiling man with a heavy chin and a genial manner that hides a manipulative and cruel nature (COPP 56).
