Jephro Rucastle

In the Sherlock Holmes stories
- Jephro Rucastle was a country gentleman living at "The Copper Beeches", five miles on the far side of Winchester, in Hampshire (COPP 87).
- He was prodigiously stout, smiling man with a heavy chin and a genial manner that hides a manipulative and cruel nature (COPP 56).
- He was the father of Alice Rucastle (from his first marriage) and Edward Rucastle (from his second marriage with Mrs. Rucastle) (COPP 146).
- He imprisoned his daughter Alice Rucastle to stop her from marrying Mr. Fowler, so he can keep control of her money (COPP 477).
- He hired Violet Hunter to impersonate his daughter in the window to mislead Mr. Fowler (COPP 477).
- He was mauled by his own mastiff, Carlo, when he tries to use the dog against Sherlock Holmes, Dr. Watson, and Violet Hunter (COPP 477).
