In the Sherlock Holmes stories

• Lucy Hebron was the daughter of John Hebron and Effie Munro (YELL 413).

• His mother Effie explained how she hid her daughter in a near cottage fearing that her new husband Grant Munro might reject her because Lucy wass visibly of mixed race (YELL 423).

• She was described as : "a little coal-black negress with all her white teeth flashing" (YELL 397).
