In the Sherlock Holmes stories

  • He was living with his son in a large Queen Anne house near Reigate (REIG 193).
  • He was numbed and dazed, with a heavy, sullen expression upon his strongly marked face (REIG 326).
  • With his son, he burglarized Mr. Acton's house to find legal documents (REIG 411).
  • They attacked Sherlock Holmes when he was searching Alec's dressing-gown for the missing part of the note (REIG 317).
