In the Sherlock Holmes stories
- Mrs. Toller was a servant of Jephro Rucastle (COPP 290), and the wife of Mr. Toller, the groom of Jephro Rucastle (COPP 290).
- She was a very tall and strong woman with a sour face, as silent as Mrs. Rucastle, and much less amiable (COPP 292).
- She turned out to be an ally to Violet Hunter. She admited she would have warned Violet earlier if she hadn't been locked in the cellar, and she explained the whole backstory about Alice Rucastle, Mr. Fowler, and Jephro Rucastle's motives. (COPP 562).
